Searching for roomates board?

Hi, the Zone is a pretty large community, with people participating and contributing to it from all over the world. Not only that, but many people know each other in one way or another. With that said, why not have a section on the boards for those who want to travel, move, visit, to other places, whether they be in the United States, or anywhere else in the world, where they can post the location of where they would like to stay; and perhaps find roommates, housemates?

A sample post would look a bit like this:

Hi, I’m in Upstate New York, looking for a permanent roommate…

Or:

Hi, I’m in California, looking to visit Philadelphia for two weeks…

It's an issue of trust. What if you don't know the person who responds to you? I guess that's true of most roomate situations, but I'd be especially careful about trusting someone I met online.

You're right about the trust, and meeting people online, but honestly, that's where mostpeople find their apartments, room mates, homes anyways... Would you feel more comfortable going on a place like Craigslist, for example, it would be just about the same.

The advantage of having this board on Zone, is again, that even though you might not know the person, someone else might, and this is a large, but somewhat close community.

very good suggestion Alex, as I am looking for a place to stay, a room to rent, or a roommate desperatly, i am going to be looking on Craig's list but would like someone I kninda know rather than a stranger.

I think the community is a bit small for just room mate type of board, but you could have something like "personals" or "living" board may be, basically a bulletin board dedicated to things like this.
I just think the community is so small that it'll be hard to find what you need in terms of room mates, but if even just one person finds a roo mate through here it'd be worth setting up a minor feature to facilitate such a search.
Basically good idea. ;)

That's true, I hadn't thought of that. You might actually get better results on here than you would on Craigslist because it is a smaller community.

Maybe it'd work better over in Graffiti? Or maybe not. I'm thinking we'd call it connections so you could use it for finding a roommate, driver, old friend, date, teacher, musician, and on and on and on.

"Connections," great suggestion, expanding the board or graffitti topic, might help in making it more active, and that will mean more results for people who will put it to use.

I've been browsing the suggestions board, and just came across this thread. I see that it's died down. But since I am thinking of looking for a roommate too, this caught my eye. JJ seemed to respond fairly favorably to the suggestion, with the idea of a grafiti topic called Connections. What, if anything, has been done about this suggestion? Is anything going to be, or is it just kind of a dead idea now?

Nothing has been done about it so far, But I hope it's not dead, as I can defenetly see alot of uses for such a Graff or message board, and the regular boards don't seem as the right fit.

but if it's on graffiti, just imagine.

I'm looking for a roommate. If anybody wants a roommate, get in touch with me.

I would think people who want to use the feature could give out information as they see fit.

I think that is an awesome idea!

I like the idea of a "Connections" board or Graffiti topic. I myself wouldn't use it for a room-mate, but more for searching for old friends or long-lost cabin-mates from camp. The only thing I find a bit of an issue with that sort of thing, is that people may feel forced in to giving some personal info that ordinarily wouldn't be needed. But, I supose there's ways around that too... Well, overall, I like it.

Same here. The chance of me actualy ever needing a roommate is slim to none, but I sure can think of many other uses for it. There are quite a number of people with whom I've lost touch.
